Leading the way in UVC LED water disinfection

At Watersprint®, we are proud to offer innovative solutions for water purification, utilizing advanced UVC LED technology. Our technology is based on a combination of scientific research, technical expertise and a strong commitment to sustainability.

Today, we are pleased to offer products based on two different technologies to effectively disinfect water using UVC LED light: Reflective Chamber Technology and IntenseBeam™ Technology.

The innovative design optimizes the use of UVC light to ensure the highest possible disinfection efficiency.

Reflective Chamber Technology

For UVC LED technology to effectively inactivate viruses and bacteria, as much light as possible must be distributed throughout the water. Over many years, we have developed our Reflective Chamber Technology to achieve outstanding results. Every detail is carefully considered to ensure that our Watersprint® products harness the full power of UVC LED technology.

Inside the disinfection unit, water flows through a specially engineered chamber made of highly reflective material. This design maximizes exposure to UVC light by scattering it throughout the chamber — ensuring effective disinfection even in a compact form factor.

IntenseBeam™ Technology

Under the Acuva™ brand, we offer products based on the patented IntenseBeam™ Technology. By combining UVC LEDs with advanced optical lensing, this technology delivers a highly focused beam of germicidal UVC energy for superior disinfection performance.

Acuva™ UVC LED water disinfection systems are built with precision in mind. Each product is engineered with optimized optics and hydrodynamics to ensure that water flows through the disinfection chamber in a controlled and efficient manner. This design approach aligns water velocity with UV irradiance, resulting in precise, reliable, and consistent microbial inactivation.

What is UVC light?

Ultraviolet light is a type of electromagnetic radiation transmitted in waves or particles at different wavelengths and frequencies. UVC light, also known as short wave ultraviolet light (200-280 nm), differs from UVA (long wave) and UVB (medium wave), which we are exposed to when spending time in the sun. UVC light is also emitted by the sun but is blocked by the Earth’s atmosphere.

In the water purification process, UVC light is used to inactivate the DNA and RNA of bacteria, viruses and other pathogens. This inhibits the ability to multiply, thus rendering the pathogens harmless.

Water disinfection using UVC light

The use of UVC light for drinking water disinfection has a history stretching back more than a century. The first full-scale water purification plant was built in 1910 in Marseille, France. Despite certain challenges concerning reliability, development continued and UVC light has been used for drinking water disinfection since the mid-1900s.

UVC LED compared with conventional water purification methods

UVC LED is the most future-proof way of disinfecting viruses and bacteria from water. High flow rates used to be a limitation, but thanks to rapid technical advances in LEDs and smart system design from companies such as Watersprint®, LED-based systems are now a competitive alternative in applications previously dominated by conventional UV lamps.

Comparative advantages of UVC LED over conventional UV lamps:

  • Energy-efficiency: Lower energy consumption.
  • Mercury-free: Safer to handle and easier to dispose of.
  • Rapid response: Immediate on/off function with no warm-up time.
  • Long service life: Lasts longer and requires less maintenance.
  • Flexibility: Adaptable for specific needs and applications.
  • Durable design: Robust and compact design for easy integration in different systems.
